We're speeding up Staten Island!

Note: Some existing bus stops have already gotten new signs or been taken down, while some new bus stops have already been put up. Current express bus routes will end on August 18 (some existing routes will run through early morning August 19). The new SIM1C kicks off at midnight Sunday, August 19th.

This is a comprehensive redesign. It includes changes to route names, route paths, and some bus stops.

The redesign will create faster and more reliable trips between Staten Island and Manhattan. Most of these buses only run during peak service. Peak service is generally 5 am to 9 am and 3 pm to 7 pm. New schedules will reflect an increase in both weekday and weekend service.

Changing demographics and piecemeal updates have made Staten Island express bus service trips longer and less reliable. By redesigning the network, we're better able to meet the changing needs of our customers. It also means a more coherent and sensible express bus system across New York. This is the first step in a plan to reimagine the bus network across New York.

NEW ROUTES

x22 and x22C become routes SIM1 and SIM1C:

The SIM1 will now run between Arden Heights and 57th St, bypassing South Shore Road and Lower Manhattan, during peak hours. The SIM1C will run between Arden Heights and Port Authority, via South Shore Road, bypassing Lower Manhattan, during off-peak hours.

x22J becomes route SIM8:

The SIM8 will now run between Arden Heights and Sabri RR Station via Lower Manhattan, bypassing South Shore Road. Service operates via West End Av in Manhattan, and via Smith Av in Brooklyn.

x4 becomes routes SIM4, SIM4C and SIM4X:

The SIM4 will now run between Eltingville Transit Center and Lower Manhattan-Worth St during peak hours. The SIM4X will operate from the Staten Island Mall to Lower Manhattan-Worth St, running SUPER-EXPRESS in Staten Island, during peak hours, replacing the s79X service. The SIM4C will operate between Eltingville Transit Center and Midtown-57th St during off-peak hours, via Lower Manhattan and via South Shore Road.

Two new routes, SIM3 and SIM11 will be added:

The SIM3 operates during peak hours, running from Eltingville Transit Center to Midtown-57th St only. The SIM11 will operate from Eltingville Transit Center to Port Authority.

All new SIM routes will receive major scheduel updates, especially the SIM4, SIM4C and SIM4X since we predict that most people will now use these 3 new services. We are also expanding the Park & Ride lot at the Mall to better suit our customers.
